For over 50 years, this client has been a leading manufacturer of stock and custom designed plastic thermoforming and injection molded packaging. They work with a broad range of customers throughout the food, medical and retail market space with a primary focus on the North American markets.
The client was evaluating business intelligence (BI) systems to improve the overall reporting from their Oracle ERP system. Primarily, they were interested in an improved ability to perform ad-hoc queries against sales information. Their existing process included a significant export from the ERP system and numerous hours working in Excel to create static management reports. The client wanted to evaluate Power BI platform as a potential application.
Baker Tilly created a proof-of-concept to get data from the Oracle ERP system into a new model in Power BI. They presented it to finance, IT and the executive management teams before implementing a working model to report sales across several areas, including various product lines and geographies. We also performed an in-person training to get finance and IT team members up to speed on Power BI which will allow the client to continue enhancements on their own for future success.
