A public research university requested assistance with responding to an external inquiry related to its Title IX policies and procedures. With increased focus on universities' ability to promptly and fairly address sexual violence and Title IX complaints, external inquiries resulting from complaints from both survivors of sexual violence and alleged perpetrators are increasingly common.
Baker Tilly compiled, organized and documented three years of sexual violence and sexual misconduct complaints from six different departments in preparation for responding to the external inquiry. Baker Tilly also reviewed the university’s current policies and procedures for compliance with Title IX guidance and leading practices, and identified areas of improvement in university-wide Title IX administration based on documentation reviewed when compiling the Title IX complaints.
The university received a memorandum summarizing opportunities to improve Title IX administration and existing Title IX policies and procedures with Baker Tilly’s recommendations noted. Baker Tilly also provided a chronological inventory of Title IX complaints received over a three-year period with paper and electronic versions of supporting documentation to enable the university to respond to the external inquiry thoroughly and timely.
