The University sought an operational assessment of its human resources (HR) function in response to three factors:
The objective of the review was to evaluate the HR organizational structure including key functions, technology and staff skill sets to assess the effectiveness of each in supporting University operations and goals.
Our specialized higher education team met with more than 30 individuals within HR and across University departments to understand and inventory key HR processes, identify gaps in responsibilities and critical HR functions and solicit feedback on the ability of HR to meet the needs of its stakeholders.
Further, Baker Tilly performed benchmarking to peer institutions and utilized industry best practices and our own thought leadership to inform recommendations regarding staffing, HR business model needs and key performance indicators (KPIs).
The Baker Tilly team presented a report to leadership with prioritized recommendations and implementation guidance. Opportunities presented included considerations for updating the HR business model to serve the needs of the University more efficiently and effectively, increasing utilization of technology already in place to automate and streamline processes and updating the hiring process to further align and support the University’s initiatives and targets as outlined in the strategic plan.
