Midwestern city finds cost and process savings with ERP system

Client need

A midwestern city needed to evaluate how its human resources, financial, utility billing, and payroll information was managed across the organization. Using the same financial reporting system for at least thirty years, different systems for payroll processing and utility billing, and several other methods for managing its transactions, the city wanted to explore the efficiencies of an enterprise resource planning system.

Baker Tilly solution

Baker Tilly performed a comprehensive needs assessment of city systems and a number of different modules e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, purchase orders, fixed assets, general ledger, chart of accounts, business licensing, bank reconciliation, and miscellaneous receivables. Through this assessment, we recommended a fully integrated, single solution for finance and HR/payroll as it would perform more efficiently than the current environment of outdated, separate systems. We then assisted the city to develop business and system requirements, craft the request for proposal, and help in vendor selection and contract negotiation for an ERP system.

Results

With the help of Baker Tilly, the city implemented a new ERP system. Baker Tilly also applied data from the needs assessment phase to identify more than one hundred seventy business process improvements to align with the city’s vision for cost and process savings.
