Welcome to Higher Ed Advisor, the Baker Tilly podcast series where we speak with higher education industry leaders about practical and proactive guidance to help colleges and universities protect and enhance their value.
Name, image and likeness (NIL) continues to be a major focus among colleges and universities as institutions collaborate about providing essential resources to prepare their student athletes for long term success in the NIL era. In this episode of Higher Ed Advisor, Jordan Rooney, CEO and creative director of brand agency Jaster and the first personal brand coach in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), joined us for an engaging conversation during the first 100 days of NIL to discuss how student athletes can build their personal brand to effectively leverage NIL opportunities. Jordan and our Higher Education practice leader, Dave Capitano, also explored how institutions can support student athletes with unique ways to attain success in the NIL era, such as:
- Creating an institution-wide ecosystem that offers access and opportunity for student athletes
- Being an innovative resource that gives something of value to student athletes that goes beyond striving for profits
- Showing student athletes the benefits of having an entrepreneurial mindset
- Making NIL sustainable for student athletes by providing education and skills that benefit athletes long after they hang up their uniforms
