David Gibson is a managing director with Baker Tilly’s development and community advisory practice. With more than 25 years of experience raising and deploying capital in and for financial institutions, David leads the firm’s tax credit investment syndication business. He collaboratively works with clients to raise and deploy investment capital for projects and businesses in the renewable energy and new markets tax credit industries.

  • Develops the firm’s managed syndication funds to efficiently raise and deploy capital supporting renewable energy and community development projects
  • Offers strategic advisory services to investor clients’ impact investing platforms, aligning clients’ strategic corporate social responsibility investment goals, with desired business outcomes and risk tolerances
  • Built and scaled New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), Historic Tax Credit (HTC) and community development investing practices for a major financial services company
  • Established NMTC and HTC equity syndication platform, raising capital from corporate investors in proprietary and multiple-investor syndication funds that distributed more than 80 NMTC and HTC investments with more than $450 million in tax credit equity raised
  • Created and led a NMTC industry-leading Community Development Entity (CDE). Authored NMTC applications and compliance protocols
  • Created and maintained underwriting guidelines and asset management procedures for NMTC and HTC investing, community development lending, and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) investing practices
  • Responsible for the origination, underwriting, closing and asset management of more than 400 tax credit equity transactions totaling more than $5 billion of capital investment across the U.S.
  • Structured, closed and managed NMTC transactions nationwide with more than 120 CDE partners
